Dayak Association Miri’s team for the 1Malaysia Dance performed during the Miri Community Dinner with the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib on 22nd July 2010 at  the Miri Indoor Stadium.

Dayak Association Miri will be organising a two-months Ngajat class starting 1st August 2010. Members and non-members are urge to join the classes which are divided into two categories – men and women.

The classes will be conduct every evening from 7.30pm-9.30pm (Mondays-Fridays), from 4pm-6pm (Saturday – men only) and from 4pm-6pm (Sunday – women only).

The men’s class is on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday while the women’s class is on Monday, Wednesday and Sunday.

A minimal fees of RM25 per member and RM50 per non-member will be charged. Children aged 8-12 years old will be charged RM50 for the Ngajat classes.

A miring ceremony is scheduled on 15th May at 9am at the Dayak Memorial Park. The ceremony marks the beginning of various work that are required in order to ensure that the burial ground is ready by June this year.

Among the work that will be done are:

•    Construction of a 20’ wide gravel road
•    Main drainage surrounding the burial ground
•    Clearing of site for the construction of a shed
•    Construction of an incinerator
•    Construction of internal lane in between the burial plot
•    Two-layered barb wire fencing
•    Construction of a sliding main gate
•    Construction of a 20’ x 20’ x 12’ shed
•    Construction of burial plots for adult
•    Construction of burial plots for children

Members of the media and public are welcome to witness the ceremony.

The Kumang Iban title goes to Jane ak Mudin from Ulu Teru, Tinjar, followed by Valentine Hellyiza ak Stephen and third place goes to Rachel ak Nanang from Sg. Poyut, Marudi.

The Executive Committee of the Dayak Association Miri paid a courtesy call to our new Resident, Mr. Gani Ugay on 2nd February 2010. The Resident was brief on DAM’s activities by our President, Mr. Alexander Isut Karin. Also present was the Chairlady of Serakup Indu Dayak Sarawak, Miri branch, Mdm. Jenny Jeli.

The half-day Family Day will be held at Indin Resort in which the gathering will feature with various games, fun activites and exciting programmes.

The programme will start off at 7am with aerobic dance to be conducted by DAM Women Section.

The programme is expected to end at 1pm with prizes giving ceremony.

Joining Fees are RM 5.00 for single and RM 10.00 for family.

Members wishing to join the Family Day are requested to register themselves with the Association’s Office/ Rumah Persatuan Dayak at 085-435467 (Miss Kitty) not later than 2nd July, 2009.

The Education Motivation Programme was conducted last Saturday on 28/06/08 as planned. The facilitators comprises Special Studies Group (SSG) and DAM members from Miri, supported by other Iban Professionals from other agencies who had willingly came and supported the programme. We must admit that the response was exceptional in many ways.

Firstly the welcoming ceremony accorded was fitting for the VVIP ~ at least 30 dancers in full traditional costumes performing the “Ngajat Ngelalu ke Temuai” alongside the Sape and Taboh beat. Nyau asai ke dah nyadi YB bala kami sebuat…nevertheless, it demonstrated their deep appreciation toward our effort & contribution.

Also a big thank to Pegari Iban Production Team led by Johnny Chuat, whose presence did excite the crowd anticipating some coverage in Pegari next edition. Reaching Betong at 2.30 am, the session started at 08.00 am, the team hardly had enough rest, but the grand welcome energised the team to start early.

The audience comprise of parents, teachers and students (numbering approx 350-400). Responses from the parents were very encouraging (despite being a Green Field) especially when the Wawasan 2020 was being presented (there was defeaning silence initially and few parents were seen taking down notes).

The sharing by Dr. Dusit, Dr. Chemaline and Diana Singgar’s paper were well received and served as eye-opener to many including teachers.
