Minutes of Meeting for 2008 Biennial General Meeting and reports will be available seven (7) days before the BGM.

Completed nomination and proposal forms shall be submitted to the Association’s Office during office hours not later than fourteen (14) days from the date of this notice.

In accordance with Clause 5 Article 5 of the Constitution, only members with valid membership have the right to vote and in accordance with Clause 13 Article 2 only members with valid membership for a period of two (2) continuous years are eligible to be nominated for the office bearers.  All members are therefore urged to check with PDM Office before the BGM, their membership status, settle outstanding fees if any and/or other related matters accordingly.

Payment of subscription fees for the purpose of validation of membership status shall not be accepted on the day of the BGM.

Dayak Association Miri wishes all members of the Executive Council, Women Section, Youth Section and all other members and friends a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The signage for the Dayak cemetery was erected last Saturday witness by Martin Entamin (photo), the Chairman for the Dayak Cemetery Management.

To fund the development and maintenance of this cemetery, the association is organising a Charity Dinner on the evening of 4th December 2009 at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club in Miri. Tickets are still available at our office. Kindly call 085-435467 for details.

The half-day Family Day will be held at Indin Resort in which the gathering will feature with various games, fun activites and exciting programmes.

The programme will start off at 7am with aerobic dance to be conducted by DAM Women Section.

The programme is expected to end at 1pm with prizes giving ceremony.

Joining Fees are RM 5.00 for single and RM 10.00 for family.

Members wishing to join the Family Day are requested to register themselves with the Association’s Office/ Rumah Persatuan Dayak at 085-435467 (Miss Kitty) not later than 2nd July, 2009.

The main objective of the weaving class is to maintain, perpetuate and promote greater awareness and skill of our traditional native culture and art amongst members of the local Dayak Communities.

In his welcoming speech, the Acting President, Mr. Alexander Isut ak. Karin, highlighted a number of issues affecting the community in general, to the Guest of Honour. They were the shortage of Iban community leaders in Miri, the shortage of burial ground for pagan Dayaks in Miri and the need to address issues relating to legality or otherwise of longhouses sited on lands cleared after 1958.

The Acting President also recorded the Association’s appreciation for the leadership, sacrifices and contribution rendered by the President, Mr. Jonathan Bedindang, who have left for an overseas assignment in August 2007. He also expressed his gratitude and thanks to three CEC members who did not wish to seek re-election – Mr. Jetli Jelian, the Secretary General, Mr. Kadir ak. Ngumbang, the Treasurer and Norman Ingka, a CEC member for their services.

The election of Office Bearers for the 2008-2009 term went smoothly as there was no contest for all positions. The new Office Bearers are as follows:

YB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr.) Alfred Jabu, the Deputy Chief Minister, was reappointed as the Patron of the Association.

In his acceptance speech, the President requested all new CEC members to work together in facing the challenges ahead of them and in trying to meet members’ expectation so that it could bring the Association to new heights. Culture and Education would continue to be the focus of the Association with emphasis on reaching out to a wider Dayak/Iban audience. Hence there will also be activities related to membership drive.
